COTA NSW CEO Gohar Yazdabadi was interviewed by ABC TV News about the findings of the Special Commission of Inquiry into Healthcare Funding, the major review of the NSW public healthcare system.

The report has produced 41 recommendations across 12 priority areas including:

  • the need for allied and preventative healthcare
  • challenges around primary and aged care
  • the health workforce
  • statewide health service planning
  • procurement processes
  • innovation

COTA NSW welcomes the opportunity to reform our health system to ensure the care of the most vulnerable, including older people, is improved.

“Hundreds of older people are stranded in public hospitals in NSW right now, through no fault of their own. The federal government has the financial and policy levers to make an impact in addressing the shortage of suitable aged care places,” said Ms Yazdabadi.

“We look forward to working with the NSW government towards better solutions including by embedding prevention at the centre of health care in NSW.”
