The Senior -Tom discovered a Medicare loophole to slash his Support at Home costs
First published by The Senior.
A retiree fed up with the exorbitant costs associated with government-funded aged care has found a little-known loophole that slashes his bills while still accessing the treatments he needs.
Tom Eadie, from Chinderah on the NSW far north coast, is rationing his care through Support at Home program because of its “excessive”, uncapped prices which in some cases are more than double the actual cost of the service.
Gohar Yazdabadi, chief executive of Council on the Ageing NSW, said the complex and confusing fees are symptomatic of a system “failing older people”.
“Seniors should not pay more simply because they need to access care through the aged care system,” she told The Senior.
