COTA NSW Strength for Life
Exercise program to improve strength, balance and mobility
Information for participants
Strength for Life is a progressive training program designed to improve your strength and fitness. You attend two classes per week held in a local gym, council facility or community centre and gradually increase the level of work you do to develop your strength. The charge for the classes is very reasonable.
It doesn't matter if you are unfit, or you have never done an exercise class before. The classes are designed to work at all levels of ability.
The trainers are all qualified fitness instructors who have undertaken a special program to be accredited with Strength for Life. They have a good understanding of the needs of older people and will create a friendly environment that you will feel comfortable in.
Increasing your strength can have lots of benefits. These include:
- making it easier to undertake daily tasks like carrying shopping and playing with grandchildren
- improving your balance and mobility
- reducing the risk of falls
- preventing or managing arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes and heart disease
- speeding up recovery from illness
- reducing lower back pain
The program may also help you feel better if it enables you to do more things and meet new people.
We are just setting up the program now. For more information, to find a class in your area or to suggest a local venue where a class could be held, please call COTA NSW on 1800 449 102 or email Kamilla.Haufort@cotansw.com.au
