COTA NSW Legal Pathways

Low-cost planning ahead documents for eligible older people

If you need to draw up a Will, an Enduring Power of Attorney or an Enduring Guardianship, COTA NSW's Legal Pathways service may be able to help you.

Legal Pathways can guide you in your consideration of planning ahead issues and provide a pathway to legal assistance.

Eligible people can have a free consultation with a private solicitor to draw up documents at a cost of $50 per document. You are generally eligible if you receive an age pension or hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, but there are also some limitations on the complexity of matters that can be dealt with under the program.

Legal Pathways is a partnership between COTA NSW and Legal Aid NSW. We have private solicitors in many areas throughout NSW. Some solicitors may be modifying their procedures at the moment because of the covid-19 pandemic.

We have participating solicitors in many areas, but not all. If we don't have one in your area, we may be able to direct you to another service that can help you.

"Thank you very much for putting us in contact with [solicitor]'s legal team. We've been there today and they were absolutely wonderful and treated my mum and I both with the utmost respect and dignity. I just wanted to thank you very much for helping us out."
