What's happening at COTA NSW

12 March 2018

We want to hear what you and your friends think!

By 2030, just over a decade away, one in three people in NSW will be over 50 – this means our issues are everybody’s business.

Over the next three months COTA will be travelling around the state to talk to older people about issues affecting them in their own communities: health and well-being, work and retirement, local housing choices, whether it’s easy or hard to get around the neighbourhood, and whether you feel part of your local community.

In March, April and May we will be in:

Rockdale 14 March                          Parramatta 15 March

Port Stephens 19 March                  Bankstown 27 March

Bathurst 3 April                                 Dee Why 7 May

Sydney CBD 8 May

Come along and tell us what you think – so we can tell everyone else.

To RSVP please email or call 9286 3860 or 1800 449 102 (NSW regional only).

Who will manage your finances when you can’t?

We are running more of these seminars with Associate Professor Sue Field, specialist in legal issues for older people. Some of these seminars will take place at the same venue and day as our Consumer Reference Groups.

Power of Attorney seminars are currently scheduled for:

Rockdale 14 March                          Parramatta 15 March

Bankstown 27 March                        Dee Why 9 May

50+ Report: The super bias: an insecure future

COTA NSW launched our latest 50+ Report, The Super Bias: an insecure future on International Women’s Day on 8 March. Our research outlined in the report reveals that there are many women being left behind by the retirement income system.

More than 7600 respondents from around NSW answered a range of questions in our survey on work, income, superannuation and their housing situations. Our initial findings strongly support other recent reports that confirm dramatically increasing numbers of older women face continual economic disadvantage as they age which is created by a lifetime of lower wages, part time and casual work, long periods of caring responsibilities, and smaller amounts of superannuation accumulated that all combine to threaten economic security.

Keen to volunteer? We want to hear from you!

Volunteers have always been an important part of COTA NSW, and this year we are expanding our volunteering roles and opportunities around NSW.

If you’re interested in rewarding volunteering experiences with us and helping to advocate for older people, please get in touch. Email us at and tell us how much time you could contribute, what kind of tasks you would be interested in, where you live and any particular skills you have that might come in handy.

We look forward to hearing from you!
