We have a winner!

All those who completed our recent Housing Survey in October went into the draw for a new iPad, and pictured is our lucky winner Ruth, receiving her iPad from COTA NSW CEO Meagan Lawson. A big thank you to the more than 7,600 people who completed the survey. The results will provide us with a wealth of information about housing and older people, and will contribute to our policy directions and advocacy efforts here at COTA NSW. Preliminary findings from the survey indicate that housing security is a major issue of concern for many older people, with people renting the most insecure. The Housing Survey asked respondents a wide range of questions about housing affordability, housing choices, tenure and housing stress, as well as questions about their gender, income, work status and their accumulated superannuation savings. We will release detailed findings from the survey in 2018. Stay tuned!

Thanks for coming to our Annual General Meeting

The Board and staff of COTA NSW were pleased to welcome 60 people to our AGM on Friday 24 November. Our guest speaker, Dr Kaye Patterson AO, Age Discrimination Commissioner for the Australian Human Rights Commission, was an engaging and entertaining speaker on a variety of ageing-related issues. Dr Patterson reflected on her working life and her interest in the rights of older workers, elder abuse, and the need to encourage innovative solutions to homelessness and risk of homelessness amongst older Australians. Many thanks to all who attended.

Powers of Attorney – series of free seminars

Following our first two Power of Attorney seminars, held in Sydney and Orange in November, we will continue to roll out these free events in 2018 at locations across New South Wales including Wollongong, Newcastle, the Central Coast, Rockdale, Parramatta and Bankstown.

These seminars cover all the details about how a substitute decision-maker can be appointed to make financial decisions on your behalf – when you can’t, or choose not to.
