We know that many of our readers are keen to learn more about the implication of this month’s Federal Budget. COTA Australia has just released a Policy Alert which examines key Budget measures affecting older Australians. While noting that there were some gains for older people in relation to aged care and health, overall the COTAs have been disappointed by the lack of vision this Budget demonstrates.

Once again, this Budget demonstrates the tendency for Government to just ‘tinker at the edges’ of big policy issues. This is particularly true in relation to the issue of retirement income. The COTAs have been calling for an independent Retirement Incomes Review that would take a broad, holistic view of all facets of retirement income, including the pension system, superannuation, and employment. Unfortunately, the Government is yet to announce such a review. To read more about this issue and others affecting older Australians following the 2015 Federal Budget, click here.
