Celebrating a year of advocacy and connection at the 2025 COTA NSW AGM
We were delighted to welcome a big crowd of members and supporters to the 69th COTA NSW Annual General Meeting on Friday November 28.
COTA NSW President Dr David Scott welcomed attendees and reported on a financial year that focused on advocacy, information sharing, and team building to support ongoing social impact for people over 50 in NSW.
Dr Scott also formally announced that COTA NSW, on behalf of the people we represent, has received a five-year funding renewal from the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, as well as a new role as the Secretariat for Ageing Peak organisations in our state.
Chief Executive Officer Gohar Yazdabadi spoke to our work to amplify the views and lived experience of older people in NSW by doing what we do best: producing vital research on important topics to influence policy makers.
She highlighted the opportunity that funding stability allows to ensure that COTA NSW can continue to foster collaboration across the government, industry, and community sector to better serve older people in NSW.
Special guest speaker, Kiki Paul, the CEO of the Community Transport Organisation, outlined the crucial role that access to reliable and affordable transport plays in allowing people to age well and with dignity and purpose.
Ms Paul also shared her tips on advocating well, quoting the American anthropologist, Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
The finale was an inspiring performance from the amazing 50up Circus who yet again proved you are never too old to learn new things!
Thank you for your support as this busy year draws to a close. We look forward to working with and advocating for older people in NSW in 2026 to build on our work as an evidence led, community connected organisation.
