Ageing in Australia is a time of possibility, opportunity and influence.
We advance the rights, interests and futures of Australians as we age.
We respect and value the contribution and lived experience of Australians as they age and support each person’s right to make choices and to participate in their community..
We value the great diversity that characterises Australians of all ages and are committed to genuine exchange and engagement with all older people in Australia.
We communicate and work collaboratively with older people, with each other, with our partners, and with the Australian community to achieve the vision and purpose of COTA.
We operate ethically, openly, honestly and with accountability in all our interactions.
The Council on the Ageing NSW (COTA NSW) is the peak organisation for people over 50 in our state. We’re an independent, consumer-based non-government organisation. We work with politicians, policy makers, and service providers as well as media representatives to make sure your views are heard and your needs are met.
COTA NSW has long had a clear vision of the sort of society we want to bring into being. We’re committed to achieving a society where older people are respected, consulted, included, represented and heard. We are determined that their contributions are valued and that they have access to the opportunities other members of the community take for granted.
While equity is a critical aspect of our agenda, we understand that achieving it is often a matter of ensuring that the specific needs of our constituents are met. Working with our community, allied organisations, government partners and the media, we ensure the interests and concerns of people over 50 are a priority for those who develop policies, deliver services and shape attitudes.
We also provide authoritative advice on a wide range of important issues. This advice is available in Fact Sheets on this website, over the phone, by mail and in person at our Sydney office.
