Recognising the contributions made by grandparent carers

COTA NSW has been advocating on behalf of grandparent carers for decades

More needs to be done to recognise the contributions made by grandparent carers

We believe that more needs to be done to recognise the contributions made by grandparent carers. Currently, they are one of the largest groups providing kin care to children, with grandparents now providing up to 75% of all kin care in NSW.

Still, many grandparents are not eligible for the benefits and services that other providers of out-of-home care can obtain. We continue to call on the State and Federal governments to better support grandparents.

COTA NSW convenes the Grandparents, Relatives and Kin Carers Alliance (GRaKCA). It brings together grandparent carers from across NSW and provides a forum for them to raise key policy concerns, which we pass on to politicians and policy makers.
